He turned up the volume of silence
Shattering the windows of my peace
The sound of it – deafening.
I couldn’t but squirm under his cold stare
Shivers racking me over
Not from lack of body heat.
Separated by age and ego
The gulf between us widened
No one willing to put out the fire of our burning bridges.
At least his impenetrable silence said that much
So did my unuttered apologies
Each held back by that black thread of discord.
